CINEMATEXAS' PARALLAX VIEW: THE POLITICAL ECONOMY OF IMAGES TO FEATURE ALEXANDER COCKBURN, RICHARD PORTON, ROBBIE CONAL AND ERIC DROOKER

Dissident journalist Alexander Cockburn and artists/activists Eric Drooker and Robbie Conal, will present radical messages and artwork as a part of Parallax View, the political sidebar for the Cinematexas International Short Film Festival, which will run September 16th-21st. From film/video, performance, micro-radio, community initiatives, and the international grassroots arena, Parallax View highlights work that takes a critical position on contemporary political issues.

Psychogeography: The Battle for Public Space

  • September 16th-21st at Creative Research Lab (within Flatbed Press)
  • Reception Sat. Sept. 21st from 6:00-8:00pm. Regular gallery hours: Tues.-Sat. 12-5 pm

Artists/activists Eric Drooker and Robbie Conal will present an exhibition of posters used in guerilla street actions to counter the psychic corruption of corporate marketing and its "legal" invasion of public space.

We Interrupt This Empire... presented by David Martinez, is a collaborative work by Video Activist Network, many of the Bay Area's independent video activists, which documents the direct actions that shut down the financial district of San Francisco in the weeks following the United States' invasion of Iraq. 30 min.

Parallax will screen footage collected from the Fifth World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference held in Cancún, Mexico from September 10th-14th 2003, The screening will be followed by open forum discussions with activists that participated in the protests.
