ISABELLE VIGIER
- Opening: Wedneday, 7:00-9:00PM, Creative Research Laboratory
- Installation: Tuesday 16th-Saturday 20th, 12:00-5:00PM, Creative Research Laboratory
- Made possible with support from the General Consulate of The Netherlands and The Texas Commission on the Arts.
Isabelle Vigier makes photographic series (in the form of an exhibition space or a book) juxtaposing a number of photographs to form a single mental picture. If each photograph can be seen in isolation, the work really happens with the assembling of her material. She often photographs with toy cameras, in black and white, and uses movement, extreme light conditions, or the handheld camera to open up possibilities for blurred, undisciplined images verging on abstraction. Since 1997 she has been the designer and photographer for improvised dance and music company Magpie, in Amsterdam.
THE INSTALLATION
The installation consists of two video projections on two parallel screens of the same size. The projections run simultaneously, one being fully visible from the exhibition room, the other partially obstructed by the first screen. The second screen functions mainly as a second layer that adds subtle light interference to the projection on the first screen.
The space will be dark, for projection on a rather large surface. The room will be suitable for projection from the back and the front of two parallel projection surfaces. One projection surface is transparent for back projection, the other is opaque.
