North Side Blues

North Side Blues is a music video for the band Eleven Hundred Springs (and yes their name does come from a Pearl can). I like to think of this video as a sort of discovery channel historo-fiction. It is based (loosely) on a real life story of love and loss.

  • The Lancebian

The Lancebian is a "performative documentary" featuring Mocha Jean Herrup, a lesbian who channels the energy of NSYNC, boy-band member Lance Bass. Through vérité footage and a heartfelt interview, the audience learns about the neurosis and insecurity felt by a soon to be pop-icon, "The Lancebian."

  • Pontiac Slipstream

  • Pontiac Slipstream is an excerpt from the longer film Eight Movements.
  • During the fires last summer, we drove along the rural highways of New Mexico and Colorado creating a frame-by-frame photographed record of the journey at roughly fifteen-second intervals. The footage begins in Santa Fe, New Mexico and travels through Grants, the El Malpais Lava Flows, El Morro National Monument, Gallup, Highway 666, Farmington, Mesa Verde, Durango, Silverton, Cinnamon Pass, Lake City, Alamosa, Espanola, and back into Santa Fe (and of course all the space in-between). The music accompanying this piece is by the Howe Gelb (of Giant Sand fame). The music chronicles the change of society and land in America. The visuals chronicle the changing expanse of highway.

  • Trip To Roswell, New Mexico

Trip To Roswell, New Mexico is an alien-filled music video for Joe West's song by the same name. It's shot entirely on digital video on location in New Mexico with some visual effects added in back here in Austin.

  • Nuclear Family

  • (work in progress)
  • Nuclear Family is a three-part documentary essay on boys and girls in Texas. Using some traditional cinéma vérité techniques, it explores the collective nature of three familiar rites of passage‹cheerleading tryouts, Friday night football games, and weddings‹and conjoins them into something entirely unique, a metaphoric Texas (and American) family. Think Dziga Vertov in Fort Worth.
