Kaffe Matthews is one of the most active artists on the new electronic music scene. Her surprisingly rare approach of exploiting digital gadgets and live performance has resulted in some unique works that transgress any boundary between sound and image. Since 1996, she has been regularly performing all over the world in clubs, galleries, concert halls, tearooms, boats, warehouses, and the Outback. The best of these events have been recorded on cd, creating an annual document of Matthews' ever developing sound worlds.
At the age of seven, Matthews began playing classical violin. She moved on to singing badly in one band, but got much further with bass and drums with another group, which recorded and toured for 4 years. In 1985 she discovered electricity and sound and with that, her current trajectory: acid house engineering, electrically reconstructing the violin, a masters in Music Technology, introducing and running a Performance Technology course at one of the leading live arts colleges in the UK, and establishing the label Annettework. She also set up a shop and earned a Zoology degree along the way.
