Fluxus Cartoon
U.S.A. 5:00 16mm
DIR Bernie Roddy

Fluxus Group strategies of rhythm, collage, juxtaposition and humor inflect this poetic chronicle of a pen, a podium, flying bowling pins and a monkey rolling out a television. - J.H.

Amelie
France 13:00 35mm | finalist
Dir: Thierry Gardeur

Like a razor to the eye, this simple narrative is a testimony to the strength of the image. Embracing the intensity of youth in both subject and form, the film focuses on a young girl taking responsibility for an ailing duck. Set in calming cosatal France, without dialogue, Amelie accomplishes a hard slap in the face with the sometimes brutal realities of life. - B.M.

Pellet
Japan 17:00 VIDEO
Dir: Kazushi Kobayashi

A gentle yet bizarre video diary about one woman's attempt to immortalize love in a regurgitated pellet of an owl. Through clever edits and elegant images, Pellet explores the barbarism found in nature and humanity. - B.M.

wüstenspringmaus
U.S.A. 2:30 BETA/16mm
DIR Jim Finn

"The gerbil has long been associated with New World capitalism because of its incessant energy." The Golden Age of Hollywood takes on the history and evolution of this delightful household pet. - J.H.

Moving Back from the Beyond
U.K. 14:00 SUPER 8
Dir: Paul Tarragó

Where are the ghost worms going? Can the Little Helper help us to understand? It may be important for we are all ultimately headed that way. - A.R.

Murmur
Australia 7:26 mixed
Dir: Kate Matthews

The modern story of a man and his tell-tale heart, told through a muted animation style that accents both a dead-pan wit and underlying themes of alienation. - J.C.

Pink Socks
U.S.A. 4:30 MINI-DV | finalist
DIR Leighton Pierce

A dreamy choreography unfolds in Piazza San Marco. Time and space shift, expand and reverse, while Venice's inhabitants go serenely about their business. - J.H.

Strong Enough
France 1:35 VIDEO
DIR Pierre Yves Clouin

"I don’t need your sympathy…" - S.G.

Praise! Praise!! Praise!!!
Japan 25:00 Super 8 | finalist
Dir: Mizuki Akihama

A woman's voice weaves remembrance of all the cats she has owned into an obsessive and haunting history of sexual experience. The cats' glowing eyes and a quivering super 8 frame build pressure in the still image until it shockingly breaks into live action, rendering the story's sensations and emotions ticklishly enigmatic and invitingly strange. As divine and seductive a confusion as you could ever hope to embrace or fail to comprehend. – S.P.
